Discover the art and technique of stone setting in this beginner-friendly class focused on round shaped cabochons—smooth, polished stones without facets. Whether you're new to jewelry making or looking to expand your skills, this course will guide you through the fundamentals of bezel setting, the most common and versatile method for securing cabochon stones.
Students will learn how to:- Understand the structure and characteristics of cabochon stones
- Measure and prepare bezel wire to fit a stone
- Solder bezels to backplates using basic metalsmithing techniques
- Set stones securely and cleanly for a professional finish
- Use essential tools and maintain a safe workspace
By the end of the class, students will complete at least one finished piece of jewelry (typically a pendant or ring) and gain confidence in their ability to incorporate stones into their designs.
Who should take this class?
Beginner friendly class, ideal for anyone interested in learning traditional stone setting methods. Basic metalworking experience preferred, but not required.
Materials & Tools:
All materials and tools will be provided. Students are welcome to bring their own cabochon stones if they wish.
